Where’s Viv?

Where’s Viv? And what is she doing?

Two questions which no doubt drift across your mind at least 10 to 15 times a day… and who can blame you?  So, to keep you from your misery, I’m making this blog to track the more interesting parts of my gap year.  Let’s just breeze over the 4 months too many that I have accidentally spent in Luxembourg, owing to the fact that it took me a looong time to convince anyone to give me a job!  This Blog is meant to be for the exciting bits only… or maybe just for when I’m bored!

So the plan is this; on the 21st of January, I will be boarding a flight in Heathrow with a bunch of other young people, and flying to the other side of the world, namely Fiji.  Here, I will spend seven months doing a placement with the Red Cross in the province of Rakiraki.  There are so many details that I don’t yet know, like exactly where I’ll be staying, who I’ll be living with and exactly what the placement entails; but I’m going to a briefing in a couple of weeks, so that should clear a few things up.  So far though, I’ve been informed that I’ll be staying with either a colleague at the Red Cross, or with a local Fijian family, and that my duties will involve “field work” (the exact details of which I’m not really sure of) visiting vulnerable groups, investigating living conditions, working with peer education teams… the list goes on!  From the sounds of it, its pretty varied, which is a good thing in my opinion.
